Acne Prevention

Acne Prevention is often a step in the process that people overlook.

They think that they need to treat the problem they already have first.

In actuality you want to prevent anything new from coming up, and then treat the problem you have. If you don’t you’re only treating surface issues instead of the things that are lying beneath the surface.

So what kinds of acne prevention methods are there?

The Dos and Don’ts

The Dos and Don’ts List

There is always a list to follow with skin routines and acne is no different. There are a few simple dos and don’ts that you should follow to make sure you’re not promoting it.

  • DO DRINK LOTS OF WATER
You want to consume at least 1.5 liters of water a day (50.7 ounces, or 6, 8 ounce glasses).

Why do you want to drink this much water?
Well, your body loses 1.5 liters of water a day, by doing nothing. If you exercise or it’s a hot day you need to drink even more water. When your body is depleted of water, it starts to soak it up from your skin drying it out.

Dry skin cracks easier, flakes easier, thus making your body think it needs to produce more oil. When your body creates more oil it makes it a breeding ground for acne. So if you want to stick with acne prevention, drink more water!

  • DO CHANGE YOUR BEDDING FREQUENTLY
If you haven’t changed your sheets and pillowcases in a while, chances are it could be contributing to your problem. Being that acne is mostly caused by dead skin mixing with sebum (oil), if you don’t change your sheets, dead skin will be all over them.
  • DO CLEAN YOUR CELL PHONE
Have you ever looked at your cell phone screen when you’re done talking on it and looked at all the oils and grease on it?

Well those oils will trap dirt, dead skin, and various forms of bacteria from being carried around in your pocket or purse.

If you don’t clean it off, you’re letting all of that gross stuff come in contact with the skin around your ears.

  • DO WASH YOUR MAKEUP OFF
A lot of make up – especially ones containing mineral oil (baby oil) clog your pores and don’t allow your skin to breathe.

If your skin can’t breathe and let toxins out, then they are going to be trapped in your pores and cause swelling.

  • DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE WITH YOUR HANDS
Your hands carry oil and if you are always touching your face you are willingly putting excess oils on your face.

Too much oil, clogs the pores, so avoiding this will be helpful.

  • DON'T USE TONERS WITH ALCOHOL
Alcohol kills all bacteria, and while it might sound like a good idea, if you kill off ALL bacteria, you kill all of the good bacteria that help your skin.

It also dries your skin out, when you dry your skin out remember that your body thinks that is a signal to produce even more oil, so you want to avoid it.

  • DO WASH YOUR HAIR
Your hair contains oil, and most acne cases can be found near the hairline, so if you keep your hair clean, acne in those areas will be reduced.
  • DO USE A SUNSCREEN WITH ZINC OXIDE
These act as tiny reflectors to mirror the sun, and sit on top of the skin instead of clogging your pores.

    Healthy Eating

In some cases of acne your diet affects how severe the case is.

While chocolate might not be the culprit how you eat is a huge factor.

The typical American diet consisting of processed foods and fast food is one that leaves much to be desired. It not only robs your body of nutrients, it adds toxins, chemicals, pesticides and other harmful things to it.

Being that your skin is the way most toxins are expelled, if your body is fed all of these processed foods, it works at an alarming rate to keep up with everything going through your system.

If it is unable to keep up with the processing, then your pores become clogged.

SO WHAT IS IT THAT YOU SHOULD BE EATING?

For acne prevention you want to be eating; Whole grains, lean meats, fruits, vegetables and water.

There are quite a few delicious things you can make that are healthy for you and will help clear your system of all the toxins it’s holding.

You want to avoid anything white; white sugar, white potatoes, white flour, white rice.

These are carbohydrates that are not easily processed by the body and it increases insulin levels. When you have increased insulin levels, it leads to a higher production of male hormones in anyone’s body. These higher levels of male hormones create more oil production, and as we all know – oil that clogs pores is the main reason acne forms.

    OTHER FACTS:

Moisturizing helps to prevent acne breakouts. If you give your skin the oil it needs then it wont be producing as much oil, meaning you wont break out as much.
