Steam Cleaning

for All Skin Types

A simple steam cleaning routine can do natural wonders for most skin types.

Facial steam cleaning is not just for oily skin, and can also benefit dry or combination skin, but is generally not recommended for extremely sensitive skin.

Using steam to cleanse your face is a simple, age old technique - that is often overlooked in our modern world of cosmetics and beauty treatments - and can help with a range of skin problems.

This is a wonderfully ancient method for removing dirt and pollution from your skin.

As it also removes natural oils it is generally seen as most beneficial for oily skin.

However if you do not overuse this technique for dry or combination skin it can also be of great benefit as it opens pores and helps combat blackheads.

How Often to Use Steam

DRY OR AGING SKIN

  • Use only occasionally - probably about once a month would be plenty.
  • Only steam for a short time of about 2-3 minutes.

    COMBINATION SKIN

  • Approximately once a week is okay for Combination Skin.
  • Steam for a shorter time of about 2-3 minutes.

    OILY SKIN

  • Once or twice each week is generally beneficial.
  • Oily skin can withstand a longer time of about 6-8 minutes.

    REMEMBER

  • As with all treatments you need to monitor both the positive and negative (drying of the skin) effects and adjust your routine accordingly.

How To Steam Clean Your Face

This is a very simple technique that requires very little preparation or expertise.

    WHAT YOU NEED:

  • A large heatproof bowl.
  • About 2 pints (1 litre) of boiling water.
  • A towel that will cover your head and the bowl together.

    WHAT TO DO:

  • Pour the boiling water into the bowl.
  • Sit in front of the bowl with your face over the steaming water.
  • Place the towel over your head and the bowl to contain the steam.
  • Make sure your face remains in the steam for the recommended amount of time (or the time you feel works best for your skin).
  • Remove your face from the steam and gently pat with the towel, leaving it to finish drying naturally.
