What are the uses for essential oils?
What are essential oils?
I get asked these questions a lot.
They are oils extracted by cold pressing or steam distillation (in most cases). These oils are concentrated versions of whatever plant, herb or fruit that they've come from and hold many healing benefits.
Because they are so concentrated it's important to remember to use a carrier oil in order to dilute them.
Very few of the oils can be used without diluting them with a carrier oil, but there are a couple of good natural skincare exceptions such as lavender and tea tree.
They are used widely in aromatherapy practices to relieve a wide variety of emotional ailments; such as depression, migraines, melancholy, mental fatigue, low libido, insomnia and more.
They can also relieve physical ailments like; eczema, psoriasis, arthritis, sprains, burns, cuts, stretch marks, wrinkles, age spots and more.
They are perfect for do it yourself skin care at home!
You don't need a medical degree to learn to use them.
They are natural so not regulated as a medicine would be.
They are concentrated and therefore very cost-effective to use.
There are some restrictions on who, when and where you should use them so always pay attention to the details about each essential oil.
Once you have done that, they will become a wonderful addition to your natural skincare regime.
