VIGOROUS CLEANSING WILL PREVENT AND/OR GET RID OF ACNEMyth.
In fact vigorous cleansing can harm the skin, making it more delicate and prone to any bacteria causing pore clogging acne.
It will also trick your sebaceous (oil) glands into thinking that they need to produce more oil because your skin will dry out.
This doesn’t mean you should never clean your face, but you should do it no more than once a day, and you shouldn’t use harsh products to cleanse with.
Your best bet is to use a gentle cleanser like Burt’s Bee’s Gel Cleanser;

POPPING PIMPLES MAKES THEM GO AWAY FASTER
Myth.
Actually, this makes acne much worse and can cause further problems with your skin.
When you pop a pimple, you may be squeezing some of the pus out, but you could also be pushing more of it down into your pore and around the hair follicle.
Doing this can cause scarring, nodules (a hard red bump under the skin) or cysts.
By squeezing them open, you are creating more of a mess of things by allowing more bacteria to get into the follicle.

POOR DIET DOES NOT CONTRIBUTE TO ACNE
Myth.
Poor diet does contribute to the problem, it might not be the specifics like ‘greasy food’ or ‘chocolate’ but if your body system is toxic because of too many processed foods and chemicals, then your skin is forced to expel toxins at an alarming rate.
If your body can’t keep up with the rate that the toxins are being expelled then they end up clogging your pores and causing acne.

GETTING TAN GETS RID OF ACNE
Myth.
While it might help to make it less noticeable it does not help get rid of acne.
Harmful UV rays can also cause pre-mature aging, age spots, dry skin, and in some serious cases skin cancer.
It’s best to use a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide when going out in the sun.

ACNE IS CAUSED BY DIRT
Myth.
Acne is not caused by being ‘unclean’.
It’s actually natural occurring bacteria, sebum (oil) produced by the body , dead skin –and in some more serious cases – white blood cells, clogging around a hair follicle.
It’s always a good idea to wash your face and keep it clean ( but don’t over wash!) but being dirty is not the cause of acne.

ACNE IS FOR TEENAGERS
Myth.
While many people like to think that acne is just for teenagers and you’ll ‘grow out of it’, the truth is it can strike at any age, young or old.
Depending on what your cause is for acne, it might not clear up once your teenage years are over.
That is why it is important to identify the cause

Fact.
While spot treatments may work temporarily, the issue is not just one spot, therefore you'll want to treat the entire area to prevent future breakouts.
