Blackhead Removal and Reduction

Natural Masks, Treatments and Exfoliation

Blackhead removal requires regular treatment to ensure you get rid of the blackheads in a way that does not damage your skin, and lessens the chance of them reappearing.

A general rule is that anything that improves oily skin (or the oily areas of your skin) will also help reduce blackheads especially if it also helps reduce the size of your pores.

What Are You Eating?

It is really important to consider what your diet and lifestyle are like if you are experiencing problems with blackheads.

There are some very simple skin care tips here that will go a long way to improving and eliminating skin problems.

Removal of Blackheads

You may choose to remove the blackheads by squeezing your skin, or by using a blackhead removal tool.

In some cases this is necessary if the blackheads are quite large and visible. It should help speed up the process of treatment as the blockage in the pore has been removed.

However, you need to take care doing this as you can end up with scarring, marks on the skin, and in some cases holes left in your skin.

Professional beauty therapists are known to use this method at times, so it is not unheard of. But as with all skincare it is good to treat both the cause and the symptom.

Getting Rid Of Blackheads

Below are some natural blackhead treatment options that should help keep your blackheads under control without the need for squeezing.

If you regularly treat your skin you should find a decrease in the size and number of blackheads forming.

And as I have personally discovered, good lighting, a magnifying mirror and a good pair of glasses, can be your best friend when it comes to blackheads!

If you feel you have tried everything, it might be time to try this Acne Remedies Guide where a former chronic acne sufferer reveals all natural remedies to cure your acne.

Natural Blackhead Treatment

For effective treatment of the existing problem, as well as making sure you get rid of blackheads permanently, you need to treat your skin with this recipe once a week.

  • 3 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 3 drops Cypress essential oil
  • 4 drops Geranium essential oil
  • A bowl of steaming hot water.

  • Drop the oils into the bowl of hot water.
  • Lean over the bowl so the steam rises onto your face, taking care not to get the steam in your eyes.
  • Keep your face in the steam for approx. 5 minutes. The oils have an astringent detoxifying effect that will help rid your skin of the excess oil (sebum) causing the blackheads.
  • Wipe your face dry to remove the steam and sebum.
  • Then splash your face with cold water, while it is still warm, to help close the pores.

    Blackhead Killer

This is a simple treatment that has just 2 ingredients; lemon juice and sugar.

I chose to use brown sugar (softer and finer) as I had no caster sugar, and I find plain white sugar too rough for my skin.

Simply add a few drops of lemon juice to a teaspoon of sugar until you get a thick paste consistency.
Rub the paste on to your face in small circular motions using your fingers.

This process can be a bit messy so I leaned over the bathroom basin while I looked in the mirror.
Then wipe your face clean with a warm cloth as the sugar can be very sticky!

My face was a little tingly when I finished and definitely smoother.  Once it settled down I moisturized as my nose felt particularly dry.

Overall it was simple, fast and my skin does seem smoother.

    Honey Almond Mask Treatment

  • 2 tablespoons of ground blanched almonds (you could also substitute oatmeal here)
  • 1 teaspoon of Honey
  • Milk

  • Mix the almonds and honey together, then add enough milk to make a paste that is a suitable consistency for a face mask.
  • Apply the mask to your face and leave on for about 15 minutes.
  • Gently wash off.

    Exfoliation for Blackhead Removal

It is also helpful to exfoliate your skin about 2-3 times a week.

Really simple household ingredients such as oatmeal, coffee grounds and buttermilk can provide a cheap, effective and gentle scrub.

You can find out about EXFOLIATION for all skin types here.

If you suffer from blackheads you need to treat them regularly a couple of times a week as otherwise they will sneak up on you again!

Keep the treatments gentle with finely ground sugar, lemon, baking soda - that sort of thing.

Add in other treatments using the essential oils as regularly as you can - probably around once a week.

Choose the best ingredients you can afford for mixing up your natural skincare.
