Carrier Oils - Their benefits and how to properly dilute essential oils

Carrier oils are used to dilute pure essential oils or absolute oils.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DILUTING A PURE ESSENTIAL OIL OR ABSOLUTE OIL?

Well the simple answer is that most aromatherapy essential oils, pure essential oils or absolute oils cannot be applied directly to the skin because of how potent they are.

There are a few which can be applied directly to the skin like Rose Hip Seed Oil. However, for the most part it’s best to create a mixture.

Not only are these great for diluting essential oils, but they are also highly moisturizing for your skin meaning you could use it on its own without anything else added, for a nice light moisturizer.

HOW DO YOU DILUTE AROMATHERAPY ESSENTIAL OILS
OR ABSOLUTE OILS?

You use 8-12 drops of essential oils per 1 ounce of carrier oil. For absolute oils you add only 3-5 drops per 1 ounce.

There are over 25 types that you can use to dilute your essential oils.

Here is a short list of the most popular ones.

Type Benefits
Jojoba Helps unclog pores (great for use with rose hip seed oil for acne), lightens scarring from acne or stretch marks, it’s the most popular carrier oil amongst aromatherapists
Sweet Almond Oil Lightweight, smells wonderful, non-pore clogging and great for those with acne.
Avocado Oil Avocados naturally plump up the skin reducing fine lines and wrinkles, it's oe of my favorites.
Olive Oil Great for dry cracked skin, it has many fatty acids which leave the skin soft and young looking. Used in many anti aging products
Grapeseed Oil Many massage therapists like to use Grapeseed oil because it's easily absorbed.
Borage Oil Great for those with dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.
Evening Primrose Oil Has anti-inflammatory properties making it a wonderful option for those who are prone to acne.
Calendula Oil It’s great for all skin types and in past wars was used to help heal wounds, scars and infections.

Now that you have a basic knowledge of oils, you can choose the one that’s right for your beauty needs.
