Cucumber Recipes for Natural Skincare
(& Watermelon)

Cucumber recipes for natural skincare make great use of fruit (some consider it more of a vegetable) that is super cheap when in season. If you are growing cucumbers then they will be fresh and on hand when you want to use them.

Personally, I don't like to eat them, so when they are in abundance I am more than happy to use them on my face!

Cucumber is considered to having a cooling and cleansing effect on the skin, so it is a really soothing feeling when you use it.

We probably all know that slices of cucumber are great for sore, tired and puffy eyes, but there are many other ways you can use it in your home remedies.

Watermelon is from the same plant family as the cucumber.
You may have already recognised this from their similarity in smell (at least I did, and I strongly dislike both of them as food... but great for skincare).

You can substitute Watermelon into the recipes below
for an equally successful result - although I have never attempted watermelon slices over my eyes...

A great tightening mask that will help with both oily skin and enlarged pores, not to mention those annoying wrinkles!

  • Keep in mind that you want the cucumber smooth, but you don;t want the mixture too runny. So if you are able to use a smaller vessel for blending you will get a thicker result.
  • The first time I did this I used a standard food processor so had to add more cucumber so the blade had more to chop. It still worked but thicker would have been better.

  • 1 cup of chopped cucumber - seeds removed, peel on
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon of milk powder

  • Puree the ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
  • Apply with a smooth cotton cloth, and leave on for about 30 minutes.
  • Rinse off with cool water (so the egg white protein does not denature and go hard on your face!)

  • Cucumber
  • Rosewater

  • Mash the cucumber so it starts to release liquid.
  • Mix about 20ml of the cucumber liquid with an equal quantity of rosewater.
  • Apply to the face and neck.
