I don't know about you, but when I see names like pure lavender oil or lavender essential oil, I always wonder what the benefits of it are.
So I did some research on lavender for you to find out exactly what it's good for and the most beneficial ways to use it.
It always amazes me how great something so simple can be. Just the scent of it has powerful calming effects and can tame even the worst of migraines. This is a favorite scent for many people, as it is nerve calming and soothing to the mind.
It's important to note that whenever you use lavender essential oil on your skin you need to dilute it with a carrier oil because it's a very concentrated material.
So what kind of benefits can this amazing smelling oil offer you?
The scent of it has a relaxing effect on the nervous system it helps you to fall asleep and is often recommended as a natural sleep aid for those who suffer from insomnia.
Using this essential oil in a bath, or getting a lotion with lavender essential oil added helps to soothe and repair the skin. It is antiseptic and antifungal and helps skin cells to repair and create a nice hydrated surface.
NOTE: During pregnancy you may want to use only half the recommended dose, or avoid all together. High doses of pure lavender oil have been known to cause uterine contractions.
TO SOOTHE YOUR BABY
I have used it when my baby is teething and having trouble falling asleep. I put a few drops on the outside of her crib or on a near-by post. It always helps her get to sleep very quickly and she sleeps comfortably for the rest of the night. It's also good for babies who have colic - which my daughter did.
Gives the mommies and daddies some much needed rest from all the crying.
You can use also dried lavender, as an alternative to pure lavender oil, in or near the pillow for adults and older children.
It is very relaxing, and it is even possible to buy commercially made lavender pillows.
Dried lavender should be kept wrapped away (such as in your pillow) or tied up in a cloth bag to prevent it spreading through your bedding!, and to protect very young ones from trying to eat it!

HEADACHES & TENSION
Also, because lavender essential oil (pure lavender oil) does such a good job relaxing the nervous system it also helps to rid people of headaches, migraines, stress, anxiety and depression.
I was having a horrible day at work one day and decided over my lunch break to head to the natural health store down the street from my office.
I was looking through the rack of oils, smelling each one individually, some were okay, then I came across the lavender and as soon as I took that first wiff all my problems seemed to fade away.
Which is why I had to buy it right then and there, it was fantastic. It has been my most used oil thus far, as I'm sure many others would agree.
Another benefit is that it's great for respiratory problems, like asthma, flu, cough, colds, sinus problems, and tonsillitis.
Typically to use it this way, I dilute 10 drops in 1 ounce of carrier oil like sweet almond oil, and apply it to the chest/throat area.
One embarrassing or annoying problem that many people face each year is lice.
I had it as a child and it was not only uncomfortable but I felt as though I wasn't allowed to go and be a kid. We had to go through extensive treatments, get rid of our mattresses, and I had to cut my long beautiful hair.
Well lavender is a great essential oil for killing lice and lice eggs.
What a sweet smelling way to get rid of a horrible problem.
PLUS MUCH MORE
What else is it good for you ask? Digestion, immunity, blood circulation, urine production, treating acne, treating eczema and pain relief.
The "Relax Massage Oil"
10 drops of pure lavender oil for every 1 ounce of carrier oil.
3 drops of pure lavender oil to one ounce of water, shake up and apply.
For a nice lavender perfume you can add 3 drops of oil to 1 ounce of water, shake it up and put it on.
Special Note: I use Amazon online to purchase ready to go products so I can maintain my natural skin care regime at all times, e.g travelling, working long hours, unable to get to the store... It is a good alternative without compromising my ideals.
